Sweet Shrub is a hardy
and vigorous deciduous shrub, found growing wild in the Eastern United
States. Commonly known as Allspice or Strawberry Shrub for its fragrance.
They bloom for many months during the summer.
Propagation is by Seeds, Spring
Division, or July Cuttings which have been treated with rooting hormone
and covered with a Cloche to retain moisture.
It prefers some shade from the
heat of the overhead Sun, and grows well in soil that is just slightly
acidic.
It is rumored that if the blossoms
are held in the hand of a child until they become warmed, they emit an
especially pleasant fragrance.
